Make This Digital Learning Day Judgment Day

Digital Learning Day is an ongoing initiative led by the Alliance for Excellent Education. This year it takes place on February 23. Its purpose is to highlight and recognize those professionals who use technology in innovative ways to enhance learning experiences.

Digital Learning Day is an opportunity for companies to leverage digital tools and resources to promote and enhance learning and development opportunities for their employees. Here are some ways companies can leverage Digital Learning Day:

Host virtual training sessions

This could include webinars, online courses, or even interactive workshops.

Encourage self-paced learning

Provide access to online resources such as e-books, videos, podcasts, and interactive tutorials that employees can use to learn at their own pace. This approach can enable employees to access training materials when it's convenient for them.

Use gamification

Incorporate gamification techniques to make learning more engaging and fun. For example, create quizzes or challenges that encourage employees to learn new concepts and apply them in real-life scenarios.

Encourage social learning

Create online communities where employees can share their knowledge, collaborate, and learn from each other. This approach can enable employees to learn from their peers, exchange ideas, and build a supportive learning culture.

Provide incentives

Motivate employees to participate in Digital Learning Day by offering incentives such as certificates, badges, or rewards for completing online courses, attending virtual training sessions, or achieving specific learning goals.

This year, digital learning has heightened urgency thanks to the first public release of chatbot artificial intelligence programs. These Al programs are unique in that they both assist in learning and they are something people must learn to use.

As usual, we are interested in the employee training and upskilling aspect. There are already countless resources devoted to teaching employees how to leverage chatbots. And many trainers are already touting their use within online learning. Our specific focus is on how to develop skills these chatbots don't have.

So what are they missing? Judgement.

A writer on The Verge documents the errant suggestions of the various Bing Al personalities. At one point, the "Venom" personality stated that Taylor Swift's Anti-Hero is a "song about a weak girl who falls for a jerk who doesn't care about her." Wow. A bit off-base.
